Two links on the LAPD:
The first is a brief post by anti-racist activist and writer Tim Wise on his blog, stating his skepticism over a new LAPD Museum that is opening up (and linking to an article reporting on that).
The second is a piece by the BBC which quotes prominent local civil rights lawyer Connie Rice as saying LA is headed towards becoming Falluja. She's very experienced in all of this and I'm new to the city, but I'm not exactly thrilled with the line she takes in the article -- yeah, promoting police reform is great, but what about peace building among the gang members, and what about state investment not in cops but in the communities themselves, with focuses like anti-poverty, social welfare, and community economic development? Of course there's a good chance she's all for those things, and the reporter only took quotes that would spin the situation in the way she wanted.
