Canadian Imperialism

A good rant from Justin Podur on a speech by former Canadian Foreign Minister (and, for a brief period after last month's open letter to Condi Rice in the Winnipeg Free Press, example of courage and the strength of Canadian liberalism in the eyes of some U.S. liberals) Lloyed Axworthy. Axworthy was one of the last remnants of social liberalism in the federal cabinet before the final triumph of Paul Martin and the business Liberals, and as he demonstrated in the speech critiqued by Podur he is fulfilling his ideological purpose admirably by straining to create a kinder, gentler imperialism for Canada to advocate with our bellicose southern neighbours.
